LAST YEAR WE DID>>>

Climate change is finally at the top of the political agenda and is now seen as being an issue of global concern. The Government has recently launched the Climate Change Bill that contains provisions that will set a legally binding target for reducing UK carbon dioxide emission by at least 26 per cent by 2020 and at least 60 per cent by 2050, compared to 1990 levels.

The Northampton Climate Change Forum welcomed David Kidney MP for Stafford and Northampton's Sally Keeble MP to a well supported and informative meeting held at The University of Northampton, Avenue Campus on Thursday, 9th July.

Katie Parsonsons of The Umbrella Fair Organisation ran a poster competition among local schools where children were asked to illustrate their environmental concerns. The winner of the poster competion was chosen by David Kidney - Katie Parsonson and Sally Keeble are seen (above) with the winning entry.

The Fair relays on grants, donations and income from stall holders fees to pay for the event to happen. The entire Fair is is organised by local unpaid volunteers.  To run an event such as ours does cost money from the insurance to the site decorations.

Please use the donate box to the left- Thank you

We lose a small amount in admin costs for every donation, please note this when making a small donation, but whatever the amount thank you.

Umbrella Fair Ideas

This is your chance to have you say in what you would like to see at this years.

The wish list will be posted below but to submit ideas, do so via our contact form put in the message subject 'idea'

The site admin will then review your idea and if it 'makes sense' will post it here with a possible:- yes - no - maybe - never - already happening.
it may take some time for your idea to appear or not at all and some ideas by deferred to the organising group.  We may
have a poll for some ideas at a later date. Some may already be on the agenda. Some may get cancelled for whatever reason ie lack of Resource.
It may be the case that you could be the one that makes the idea happen!

So first up is:

Lets have an Umbrella Fair this year   - Yes

How about ensuring that any power consumed on site is green (i.e. no eptrol/ diesel genrators) as at the Big Green Gathering?

How about assuring the green credentials of stallholders and suppliers?

How about a camping fair over a weekend, not next year but how about 2012? loads more opportunity for workshops/ learning, fun etc but obviously costs a lot more beyond getting the permissions

How about sponsorship (not just money though) from the public sector to demonstrate their support and commitment to a greener Northampton?

This is an event that is run by volunteers.

We have a large number of local people involved in this event ....from helping organise it and/or helping out on the day to having a stall or providing entertainment

So thank you and enjoy.

Thanks
