Giving your time to Umbrella Fair is a great way to gain experience in events management and meet a fantastic, diverse group of people that you probably wouldn't work with in any other way. Everyone who works for Umbrella Fair does so for free. This not only means that everyone who is involved actually wants to be - it means that a free day out can be offered to the people of Northampton.
Site crew - if you don't mind getting your hands dirty and shifting all kinds of infrastructure (staging, fencing, tables, chairs, etc...) then the site crew is the place for you. They do heroic work under what can best be described as challenging conditions at time, but they always come through and do so with a smile on their face.
Stewarding - a really important job on the day of the Fair itself. Our stewards are often described as the eyes and ears of the Fair because this is actually what they are. A steward's main role is to highlight issues that arise on site before they escalate, provide visitors to the Fair with information, and help out in an emergency. Not a role to be underestimated.
Environment team - perhaps not everyone's first choice of job but litter picking and dealing with the enormous amount of refuse generated by the Fair is extremely important. We have a dedicated and hard working Environment team who could use all the volunteer help they can get. The Umbrella Fair strives to be environmentally friendly and these guys deliver.
We also need people to help us collect and sort rubbish after the event, even if it is for only a couple of hours and you don't have the time to commit further to the Fair but you want to give something back then this is a great way of doing so.
We are extremely grateful to those that help every year and the job becomes a smaller task with more helpers. You don't have to apply just turn up on the day or in the days following the fair and ask for a bin bag and one of those cool grabber things.
Production - there's a mountain of paperwork that needs to be done before the Fair can happen. It's very likely that visitors to the Fair will never see the hard working admin volunteers that spend time making sure that both the I's are dotted and T's are crossed. Stall holders need liaising with, a website needs maintaining, the press needs to be given stories, merchandise needs organising, and that's all just the tip of the iceberg...
